Frequently Asked Questions

Registration
Register as early as possible due to seat availability because class sizes are limited. Your registration is held by receipt of payment method using: VISA, Mastercard, Discover or American Express number with billing address, expiration date and security code, or check, wire transfer, purchase order (pending credit approval) or the DD 1556 Form. Credit cards are not charged until the first day of class. Go to government rates information.

Course Cancellations
All courses are subject to cancellation. Your registration will be confirmed at least 3 weeks prior to class start date. Please do not make airline reservations until you receive written confirmation. AVO will not be held responsible for the reimbursement of non-refundable airline tickets or for any costs arising from cancellation.

Student Cancellations and Transfers
Written notification of cancellation or transfer must be received thirty (30) days before the start date of the course or a 100% cancellation fee will be charged. No shows will be charged the full registration fee. Substitutions of personnel may be made at any time for the same class.

Hours
All open-enrollment classes start at 8:00 am and end at 4:30 pm. An hour is allotted for lunch. Courses that have a half day will end by 12:00 pm on the final day.

Attire and Supplies
Casual wear is permitted, however when taking a hands-on course, shorts and sandals are not permitted. Please see course descriptions for specific requirements.

Meals
Meals are not provided as part of the registration fee.

Lodging and Travel
All hotel reservations and charges, transportation arrangements and fares are the responsibility of the student. We have negotiated discount pricing at various hotels. Visit course locations for maps and information on recommended hotels, transportation and airports. Allow at least 4 hours after class ends before your scheduled flight.

Certificates
To receive credit for hands-on courses, each student is required to successfully demonstrate task proficiency under instructor evaluation and receive a 70% or above on the written final exam. Seminar courses only have the exam requirement. Certificates of Completion and CEU's are issued on the final day of class. If a student fails to meet the passing requirements, a Certificate of Attendance will be issued and no CEU's will be awarded. Absenteeism may be cause for a certificate not to be issued.

Tax Deductible Education Expenses
U.S. Treasury Regulation 1.162.5 permits an income tax deduction for educational expenses (registration fees, and cost of travel, meals and lodging) in order to 1) maintain or improve skills required in one's employment or other trade or business, or 2) meet express requirements of an employer or a law imposed as a condition of retention of employment, job status or rate of compensation.

International Students
All international students must pay in full by wire transfer at the time of registration. Documentation can be supplied for travel visa requirements following receipt of payment.

Changes
AVO Training Institute reserves the right to cancel any class or make other changes in course content, schedule, pricing or facilities. Every effort will be made to provide prompt notification of any class cancellation and/or any other changes.

Certification Programs
In order to receive certification, you must first submit the appropriate certification application form. Upon successful completion of all required courses, your certificate package will be mailed.

Recertification/Reinstatement
If your certification is nearing expiration please print and submit (via mail, email or fax) the recertification/reinstatement application indicating “recertification”. Upon receipt of your application along with payment($350), the recertification exam will be mailed out to the proctor that you designate. Please return the completed exam to the mailing address listed on the application. Upon successful completion of exam, your recertification will be processed. Please allow 3 - 4 weeks from submittal of request to recertification deadline to ensure that your certification will not lapse.

If your certification has lapsed please indicate “reinstatement” on the application and submit (as outlined above) along with payment ($500). You will be required to successfully complete the reinstatement exam (more indepth exam) in order to be reinstated.

Recertification/reinstatement is valid for 3 years from exam date.

Replacement Certificates
If you need a replacement certificate from a course you attended you can print and submit the certificate replacement form. Cost of a replacement certificate is $50, due with your request. Please allow 2 - 3weeks from submittal of request to receive your replacement certificate.

Training for a Journeyman Electricians License
AVO does not provide training to receive your Journeyman Electricians License. Our programs are meant for increased skills and knowledge for personnel in the electrical field. Some courses may meet your local requirements for continuing education towards renewal of your existing license. Please see local regulations for specifics.

Is onsite training expensive?
Onsite training is often your lower cost option depending on how many students you have. Travel expenses are generally the deciding factor because for open-enrollment you must cover travel for each of your students versus onsite only covering instructor travel. A good rule of thumb is 4 or less students open-enrollment, 5 or more onsite. Of course this always depends on your proximity to a Learning Center.

What courses can be delivered onsite?
Every electrical safety, maintenance, fundamentals or engineering course you can think of. We can teach any of the courses found on our website, mix and match content from different courses to create a custom presentation, or create a new course upon request.
