Electrical hazards, specifically shock, arc flash, and arc blast, can result in serious injury or death to employees that work on or around transmission generation or distribution electrical equipment. Work environments that create the potential for these events put everyone, including owners and contractors, at risk. To ensure safety when working around electric utility equipment, personnel must understand electrical safety standards and regulations, adhere to an established electrical safety program, understand electrical hazards, safe work procedures, protective equipment, and improving electrical system safety through design. An essential part of any electrical safety program is training. OSHA 1910.269(a)(2) requires training for electrical safety-related work practices.
