TRANSFORMER TESTING AND MAINTENANCE4 days 3.2 CEUs Hands-on 8:00am-4:30pm Tuition USD $1500 Because transformers are usually very reliable, it's easy to forget to carry out routine maintenance procedures. But recognizing that a transformer is a relatively sizable expenditure and that they are a critical component in providing reliable power, it's worthwhile to take the time and effort to enforce a proper maintenance program. Correct interpretation of maintenance data from transformers is vital for increased reliability, long life, and elimination the chaos and expense that usually accompany an unplanned outage. Learning Objectives • Transformer types, applications, components, indicators, nameplate data and safety procedures.
• Interpret tansformer polarity and vector diagrams
• Applicable standards including ANSI/IEEE, ASTM and NETA
• Filling, filtering and drying of transformer oil
• Perform insulation resistance tests, transformer turns ratio test (TTR), power/dissipation factor tests (AC insulation resistance), core excitation test, winding resistance test and a wide range of insulating liquid tests in lab
• Interpretation of all test results
Who Should Attend Designed for technicians and engineers that are responsible for the maintenance and testing of industrial and utility substations. Requirements Requires working knowledge of basic AC and DC theory. Field experience beneficial, but not required. Comments
