PROTECTIVE DEVICE COORDINATION FOR UTILITIES

4 days
3.2 CEUs
Hands-on
8:00am-4:30pm

Tuition USD $1500

The goal of protective device coordination is to allow the normal operating parameters, open the circuits before components are damaged and to limit the outage to the smallest area through selectivity. Protective device coordination deals with proper selection and settings of relays breakers and fuses. These studies can be used to verify the correct fuse size and determine the proper settings for existing breakers and relays, or as an aid to selection of new or replacement equipment. If a short circuit were to occur the there exists the possibility that large sections of the distribution or transmission system could be affected. The affects could include damaged lines, substations, or associated equipment, system reliability and stability may even be affected. System restoration could prove to be a long process. With a proper protective device coordination study employees will be able to asses each stations protective system to ensure the proper operation.

Learning Objectives
• Protective device applications, evaluation methods, and applicable IEEE Standards

• Load oriented relay selection and application for station, line, transformer, motor and generator
protection, etc.

• Use SKM System Analysis, Inc.TM Power Tools for Windows®® to develop phase and ground overcurrent protective device coordination studies

Who Should Attend
Designed for engineers and supervisors responsible for selection and calibration of advanced protection schemes for industrial facilities and power utilities.

Protective Device Coordination II has recently been revised and as a result will become Protective Device Coordination for Utilities and shorten from 4 days to 3. The final presentations of the 4 day format will be Oct 25-28 in Dallas and Sept 27-30 in Valley Forge.

Requirements
Requires Protective Device Coordination I. Bring a laptop with Windows® XP, NT or Vista, Pentium II 300+ Mhz, 140+ MB hard drive space, 64+ MB of RAM, CD-ROM drive, and administrative privileges in order to install software.
