About Us
AVO Training Institute specializes in practical, hands-on electrical training presented in our classrooms and on-site at your facility. We also offer fundamental courses online.
Our training courses teach the skills and techniques your employees need in order to maintain the reliability of your electrical system, avoid personal injury, and minimize electrical equipment damage.
Our training philosophy... we believe it's more effective to learn by doing. Virtually all of our training courses combine interactive instructor presentations with practical, "hands-on" experience in a lab and/or field environment.
Founded in 1963 and ISO 9001 certified since 1996, over 230,000 electrical maintenance and testing technicians and engineers from around the world have attended our training courses.
Choose from over 50 different courses which are approved and registered for Continuing Education Units. Courses are presented in the following subject areas:
- Electrical maintenance and testing of all type of electrical power equipment including circuit breakers, protective relays, substations, transformers, switchgear, motors, motor controls & starters, batteries, cables, watthour meters, generators, etc.

- overhead power lines for use in safety training
- motor control center hands-on training lab
- protective relay, circuit breaker and watthour meter hands-on training labs
- hundreds of protective relays, circuit breakers, watthour meters, and other power apparatus
- test equipment manufactured by Megger, Doble Engineering, Hipotronics, Syprotec and others.
We use only instructors with real-world, hands-on field experience. All of our trainers have extensive on-the-job experience in the course subject(s) they teach. They can answer questions and help you resolve problems you may have at your job site.
Our safety instructors are OSHA approved by completing the Training Program for Occupational Safety and Health Standards in Construction and General Industry.
Our electrical training programs are conducted in numerous locations or can be presented on-site at your facility. In addition to our Dallas Learning Center, we conduct training in about 25 additional locations in the United States and Canada. We can also bring the training to you, and present your desired course(s) on-site at your facility.
There are several advantages of conducting our training courses onsite at your facility: AVO Training Institute recognizes that off-site training might not be your best choice. That's why every course we present can be taught on-site at your facility.
Here are a few of the benefits of on-site training:
- course content can be more focused on the equipment you use everyday
- the course can be customized to be site-specific to meet your specific needs and concerns
- the course can be presented to meet your schedule -- on weekends, on any shift, whenever it's convenient.
- the cost per student is greatly reduced by eliminating travel time and expenses
- a larger number of students can be trained
- your employees are still available in case of a job-site emergency
These reference materials are provided upon completion of each electrical training course:
- a custom textbook developed specifically for the course
- any special training hand-out materials
- access to the instructor by telephone for help after the training progam
- a certificate for successfully completing the course.
Your satisfaction is guraranteed. We are confident that you will find our training a very rewarding experience. If for some reason the training you receive does not meet your expectations, we will refund your tuition fees. Or, you may repeat any course at any scheduled location by contacting our Registrar (some enrollment restrictions may apply).
We offer a wide variety of training materials to enhance your company's training program or for self-study. Browse our online Technical Resource Center.
Included among our training course attendees are electrical maintenance technicians, electricians, engineers, insurance investigators, safety officers, and others who are responsible for the safe, reliable operation of power systems and associated electrical equipment.
You can download our complete course catalog. It's a 4.3mb file in pdf format so it'll take a couple of minutes to download.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We also provide Electrical Safety Services and Power Engineering Services; and have an online Technical Resource Center where you can order technical books, codes and standards, self-study training materials, training videos, personal protective equipment, and safety tools. |
